On December 6, 2022, there had been held republican scientific and practical conference with international participation "Prevention and treatment of long-term consequences of pathology of the neonatal period" at BelMAPE in a remote format (videoconference).
The conference was opened by head of the Department of Neonatology of BelMAPE Yuri Ustinovich, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor. He noted that in the Republic of Belarus great progress has been made in providing medical care to newborn children, including premature newborns with low birth weight. Improving the survival of seriously ill patients should ensure not only the fact of saving life, but also its decent quality over the next years. The conference was devoted to the problems that arise in the neonatal period and, in some cases, are accompanied by negative long-term consequences affecting various systems and organs.
Particular emphasis is placed on the prevention of the consequences of the pathology of the neonatal period, which is possible only with close interdisciplinary cooperation between neonatologists, pediatricians, pediatric neurologists, ophthalmologists and other specialists.
At the conference, reports were presented covering the issues of anemia in the neonatal period, retinopathy, hemorrhagic disorders, neurological outcomes in premature newborns.
Aspects of preventive pediatrics were also covered, concerning the neurocognitive development of large newborns, bone mineralization disorders in young children; consequences of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia; speech development disorders and others.
The reports were the result of scientific research and the experience of many years of work of the speakers, taking into account modern world medical trends.
The event was attended by leading specialists of BelMAPE;, educational institutions "Belarusian State Medical University", "Vitebsk State Order of Friendship of Peoples Medical University", State Institution "Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Mother and Child", as well as speakers from the Russian Federation.
In the course of summing up the results, the conference participants exchanged views on the topics of the reports made. A multidisciplinary approach to solving topical issues of neonatology makes a significant contribution to the improvement of practical health care and improves the quality of medical care.
