In 1975, Nikolay Dosta started to work as an assistant at the Department of Urology of Belarusian State Institute for Advanced Medical Training. In 1978, he defended his Candidate’s thesis entitled «Hospital-acquired infection of postoperative wounds in urology». Working at the Department of Urology, he paid a great deal of attention to the implementation of endoscopic, minimally invasive and low-traumatic treatment methods of urologic diseases into the clinical practice of Minsk Regional Hospital and urologic units of the Belarusian hospitals. He was the first physician in Belarus, who started to perform transurethral resection of prostate at adenoma and other endoscopic operations on urinary bladder and kidneys.
In 1993, Nikolay Dosta was appointed to the position of a division chief of the Department of Science and Implementation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. In 1993, Nikolay Dosta continued his career as an associate professor at the Department of Urology of Belarusian State Institute for Advanced Medical Training, where he had been working on a part-time basis until 2003. Since 2003, he has been working as an associate professor at the Department of Urology of BelMAPE. For several years, he had been a member of the Scientific Council of BelMAPE and Specialized Scientific Council for Thesis Defense.
From 2001 to 2013, Nikolay Dosta headed the Public Organization «Belarusian Association of Urologists». Being a member of the European Association of Urologists, he actively participated at annual meetings on the development of aligned documents on urologic education in Europe, and also on the improvement of urological medical care. He participates at European congresses and meetings, taking place either in Russia or in other CIS countries.
Nikolay Dosta is a member of editorial boards of the journals «Medical news», «Recipe», «ARS MED ICA», «Medical knowledge».
