Sergei Grachev was born on the 5th of July, 1949, in the city of Simferopol. After finishing secondary school in 1966, he was admitted to Crimea State Medical Institute, to the Faculty of General Medicine. In 1972, he graduated with distinction from Crimea State Medical Institute with a specialization in general medicine.
After the graduation, from 1972 to 1973, Sergei Grachev did an internship in therapy at Minsk City Clinical Hospital № 5. From 1973 to 1974 he worked as a general practitioner at Minsk Automobile Plant Outpatient Clinic. From 1974 to 1979 he worked as an anesthesiologist and intensivist at Minsk City Clinical Hospital № 5. From 1979 to 1981 Sergei Grachev underwent clinical residency on anesthesiology and resuscitation at Minsk State Medical Institute.
After finishing clinical residency program, for many years, he had been working at Minsk Emergency Hospital. From 1981 to 1983 he worked there as an anesthesiologist and intensivist, from 1983 to 2005 — as head of the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit. From 1994 to 2003 Sergei Grachev worked as a chief visiting anesthesiologist and intensivist of the Health Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee. In 1994 he got the highest qualification category in anesthesiology and resuscitation.
Since April, 2005, until the present Sergei Grachev has been working at the Department of Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine of BelMAPE: from 2005 to 2011 — as an assistant, since 2010 — as an associate professor. He is a Candidate of Medical Sciences; in 2009 he defended his thesis entitled: «Low-flow inhalation anesthesia during abdominal surgeries». In 2011 Sergei Grachev was awarded the academic title of an associate professor in clinical medicine.
Sergei Grachev was granted numerous diplomas and certificates of honor from Minsk Emergency Hospital, BelMAPE, Health Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee, and Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. He participated at the 11th and the 12th World Congresses of Anesthesiologists (Sidney, 1996, Montreal, 2000). He has an international Certificate with a permission to work as a lecturer of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation course (AIHA, 2000, USA).
