Sergei Popov was born in 1979 in the town of Tartu, Estonia. In 2002, he graduated from Vitebsk State Medical University with a distinction, with a specialty in general medicine and preventive care. During the studies at the University, he learnt English with a strong focus on the advanced level, and got the qualification of an executive assistant and interpreter of the medical literature with a specialization in general medicine.
Sergei Popov did internship in therapy at Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital, and then he worked as a general practitioner in polyclinics in Orsha and in Vitebsk.
In 2005, Sergei Popov started to work as a psychotherapist in Vitebsk Children’s Social-Psychological Center. From 2006 to 2007, he worked as a psychotherapist at Vitebsk Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Dispensary. From 2007 to 2009, Sergei Popov worked as a psychotherapist at the Republican Mental Health Clinic. Since 2009 until the present,
Sergei Popov has been working at the Department of Psychiatry and Narcology of BelMAPE.
Sergei Popov is a member of the Belarusian Association of Psychiatrists, vice chairman for the ethic commission of the Belarusian Association of Psychiatrists; a member of the International Society for Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis.
His scientific and clinical interests are the following ones:
- Psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy in a clinical psychiatric practice;
- Psychodynamic psychiatry;
- Psychotherapy and psychosocial interventions at psychotic disorders and schizophrenia;
- Psychoanalytic therapy of borderline personality disorders;
- Psychoanalytic therapy of affective and anxiety disorders.
