Gastroenterologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor of clinical medicine, corresponding member of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences

Yuri Marahovsky was born in a family of employees in the city of Batumi. He graduated from Minsk State Medical Institute in 1969. From 1972 to 1975, Yuri Marahovsky did a PhD course in radiation endocrinology at the Nuclear Energy Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus. In 1975, he defended Candidate’s thesis. From 1975 to 1977, he worked as a senior research worker at the laboratory of biochemistry of neurohormones and metabolic control at the Central Scientific and Research Laboratory of Minsk Medical Institute. From 1980 to 1990, he worked as an assistant and associate professor of the Department of Internal Diseases of Minsk Medical Institute. In 1990, he defended his Doctoral thesis. In 2005, he got the academic title of professor. From 1994 to 1999, he worked as a director of the Republican Specialized Center for Gastroenterology of the Ministry of Health of Belarus; since 2000 until the present – head of the Department of Gastroenterology and Nutritiology of BelMAPE.

He started his scientific researches at the times, when he was a 3rd year student at the Department of Pharmacology, when he published 5 reports at international conferences. The topic of his Candidate’s thesis is «Biological rhythms of the system hypothalamus — pituitary— suprarenal cortex at some endocrine disorders».

From 1975 to 1977, he investigated a functional condition of the endocrine regulation with the accent to the interaction between neuronal, hormonal and receptor regulation mechanisms at pathology and physiological states. In 1990, Yuri Marahovsky defended Doctoral thesis entitled «Clinical importance of lyloperoxidcholy. Vesicular-lypoperoxide hypothesis of pathogenesis of chronic cholecystitis».

Yuri Marahovsky is an author of the monographs: «General gastroenterology. The main terminology and diagnostics criteria» (1995), «Terminology, definition of terms and diagnostic criteria in endoscopy of gastrointestinal tract» (2000), «Standardization in gastroenterology» (2001), «Static methods applied at the development of drugs» (2014), «Legalon» (2010).

Yuri Marahovsky gave reports at five World Gastroenterology Congresses and eight European Gastroenterology Weeks. He is a member of editorial boards of the journals: Actual Issues of Gastroenterology, Russian Journal of Gastroenterology, Coloproctology and Hepathology (since 1994), World Journal of Gastroenterology (World J Gastroenterology, 2001-2010), international journal - Journal of Gastroenterology, Pancreatology and Liver Disorders since 2014.  In 1994, he was a member of the Scientific Committee of the World Gastroenterology Organization (OMGE), in 1990 – a member Nomination Committee of the same organization; in 1994, he was a member of the American Institute «Ultrasound in medicine», in 1992 – a member of the European Association of Gastroenterologists. He is a member of the European Organization of Medical Specialists.

Yuri Marahovsky is a specialist of the high scientific qualification, an expert in the following areas: gastroenterology, nutritional science, biomedical statistics, endocrinology, internal diseases. He developed and implemented into practice: methods of diagnostics and treatment of diseases of the digestive system, drugs. He has a huge experience in the development and participation in preclinical and clinical drug trials, also at international level and medical devices. He is a member of the Expert Commission in gastroenterology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, a member of the Commission of Drug Registration, Commission of Supplement Registration, he is an expert of the Drug Commission of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. Yuri Marahovsky is an author of more than 300 publications, including international ones.

He is an author of 8 patents.

In 2014, he was awarded a medal by the Government of the Republic of Belarus.
